Our promise

The 2-year workmanship warranty.

Two years, on every job we complete, running from the day we finish. It covers how we apply the finish, not the product wearing out or wear on surfaces that get walked on. Here is the whole of it, in plain words.

How long does the warranty last?

24 months, running from the day we finish your job. Every job we complete carries it. There is nothing to register, nothing to buy, and no paperwork to keep. If we did the work, you have it.

What does the warranty cover?

Defects in how we applied the finish. If any of these show up inside the two years, we come back and put it right at no charge:

  • Peeling, blistering, flaking or lifting caused by our preparation or adhesion.
  • Runs, sags, drips, lap marks, missed spots and coverage that is too thin.
  • Overspray, or paint on a surface that should not have any.
  • Caulk or filler we applied cracking, shrinking or pulling away.
  • Drywall patches we made cracking, or our tape joints showing through.
  • Texture we applied failing or coming away from the ceiling.

What do you actually do about it?

We come back, re-prep and re-coat the affected area with the product on your quote, at no charge. Where a defect runs across a whole wall or section, we redo the whole of it rather than dabbing at spots. Repainting part of a surface that has aged a year or two can leave a difference in sheen or colour, and we will tell you where we expect that before we start rather than after. Except where the law does not allow that remedy to be limited, repair is the remedy under this warranty; it is not a refund, and a repair does not restart the 24 months.

What does the warranty not cover?

This warranty is about how the finish was applied, not how long the finish lasts. It does not cover:

  • The product wearing out: fading, chalking, loss of gloss, or wood going grey. Paints and stains have their own working lives, and the quote builder shows you the expected life of the stain you pick at the moment you pick it. A stain rated for about a year on a deck is not defective when it looks like a year has passed.
  • Wear on surfaces that get walked on or handled: deck boards, stair treads, porch floors, the tops of railings, window sills. We warrant how the finish was applied to them. We cannot warrant it against foot traffic, furniture or standing water.
  • Pre-existing defects, previous coatings, substrates we did not install, and damage from moisture or structural movement that was already there. Our Terms of Service set those out in full.
  • Damage after we leave: knocks and scuffs, pets, cleaning chemicals, pressure washing, or work done by someone else.
  • Surfaces we advised against painting, work you asked for over our advice, and paint or stain you supplied yourself.
  • A repair someone else has already attempted before we have seen the problem.

How do I make a claim?

Tell us as soon as you notice something, and inside the 24 months. Email hello@prepprimepaint.ca or call (647) 646-8877. Photographs help but are not required. We need to see the problem before it is repaired, and we need reasonable access to the work, so please do not have someone else patch it first.

Does the warranty transfer if I sell the house?

No. It covers the person who bought the work, at the address the work was done. It does not transfer to a new owner.

What about the paint manufacturer's own warranty?

Paint and stain manufacturers warrant their own products directly, and those warranties are between you and the manufacturer. They are separate from our workmanship and they do not replace it. If the product itself has failed rather than the way we put it on, tell us anyway, and we will help you take it up with them.

Your rights under Ontario law

This warranty is in addition to your rights under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act and does not limit them. Nothing here takes away a right the law gives you.

This warranty forms part of our Terms of Service, which set out the rest of what we are and are not responsible for, and your rights under Ontario law in full. The 24-month term and the repair remedy are stated in both places and mean the same thing in both.

Two years of cover, on a price you can see now.
